Yangon squatters defy authorities

Squatters on P Moe Nin Road in Hlaingthaya Township in western Yangon
 have told Mizzima that even if local authorities take legal action to evict them, 
they still have no option but to continue living on that plot of land.

Thilawa farmers face losing rice fields to SEZ

RANGOON A blast and an ensuing fire destroyed two tankers carrying oil 
on Rangoon’s Hlaing River on Monday afternoon, killing four crew members

UN Envoy Visits Kachin Refugees

A UN official urges the Burmese government to allow assistance
 to tens of thousands of people displaced by violence.

The U.N.’s special advisor on Burma on Tuesday visited refugee camps
 in Kachin state that had previously been closed to international aid groups, 
pledging to work with the Burmese government to deliver aid to those displaced 
by clashes between rebels and government troops.
